As I wait for the police to turn up at my home to arrest me for heresy, I must type as quick as I can. This topic is surely 'hate speech' or maybe even 'racist' for climate change affects non-whites. It could be argued that it is also 'transphobic' because the climate changes from one state to another, it 'transitions'. It's a minefield.
A few months ago, the BBC tried to do its job and present information in a balanced way to GCSE geography students. This was part of its Bitesize revision material. Unsurprisingly, the 'eco-defenders of the earth' complained and asked for its removal. It went. The BBC caved. Shock. Horror.
What heresy did the BBC transgress? Did they deny climate change? Did they air the opinions of an apostate? Did they call out the hypocrisy of the green movement? Did they point out that every climate prediction has never come to pass?
The BBC made one error. They dared discuss possible benefits of climate warming – for we all know there can be no benefits when we all burning to death. The earth is on fire! But the earth's climate is constantly changing and will continue to do so. No one denies climate change. The question no one can answer is 'does man's activities contribute to the change?'. The graph attached tells us it is all just part of a master plan and is cylindrical.
The question you are now asking is 'what benefits?'. This sounds crazy. No one has ever mentioned the benefits before of climate change. The BBC may be woke and biased, but they cannot be accused of being right-wing lunatic conspiracy theorists. What the hell did they say? They pointed out the tangible benefits of a warmer world.
Warmer temperatures and increased CO2 levels will allow plants and crops to grow more vigorously. Longer growing seasons will benefit farmers. Today's frozen regions could be farmed once the ice melts. All this would lead to more food production at lower costs – meaning fewer people starving or going hungry. And the planet would be greener.
A warmer world would mean less energy consumption to heat homes and offices. We could spend more time outdoors leading to healthier lifestyles. New tourist opportunities would be created.
Much needed resources could be discovered once the ice has gone. Reserves of oil, minerals, ores and precious metals. All the things we need to continue our 'first world' existence.
The BBC was right to highlight these points for they are possible benefits. They are not guaranteed but impartiality means offering information from different sides of a sensible argument. No right or wrong. But a selection of opinions for the reader to make their judgements upon.
If we cannot stop climate change, which we cannot, is it not a good idea to look ahead? See what opportunities may present themselves in the future so we are aware and ready for action?
As a good boy scout knows: "Be prepared!".
